Abia LIFE-ND Project Trains Staff on Field Security, Safety Tips

To implement International Fund for Agricultural Development, IFAD’s, priority on staff security, the Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprises Niger Delta, LIFE-ND Project, on May 21, 2026, organized a security workshop training to equip field officers on safety as they endeavour to guarantee food security in the state.

Representing the State Project Coordinator Uchenna Rowland Onyeizu, Ph.D, CEnv, the State Administration and Logistics Officer, Mr Wisdom Ukonu, described the training as an “eye-opener”, emphasizing security as a business for all, not an individual preserve.

To evade danger, he advised staff to be knowledgeable of the time and location of their activities to escape dire consequences.

“All of us are security agents and we’ve to be equipped with the right knowledge on how to react on issues, especially timing our activities in the field. If we don’t get it right, we might be ambushed and face security threats” he said.

Dr Kelechi Uzoma, Resource Person

The Resource Person, a security expert, Dr Kelechi Uzoma, cautioned on the “laissez-faire”, approach – a hands-off attitude towards security, insisting that security has exceeded personal issues to an “inclusive business “, including rural communities, work environment and highways.

“Security has gone beyond our security agents. It’s now in our hands. If we don’t pay close attention to security, we’ll be handing criminals easy access to our environment for havoc. Give sensitive information, if you see”, he advised.

Concerning his daily presence in the field, the State Rural Infrastructure Engineer,

Engr. Chikaodi Onwukwe, described the workshop as “necessary”, highlighting the training as handbook as he executes his duties.
