NPC Praises President Tinubu, IFAD, NDDC, on Food Security Agenda, Calls Donors for Up scaling of Project

The National Project Coordinator of Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprises, Niger Delta (LIFE-ND), Engr Sanni Abiodun, PhD, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for enhancing the food security in Nigeria.

Dr Abiodun said this on December 9, 2025, at the High Level Scaling Up Youth Agripreneurship in Nigeria For Food System Transformation, held at Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja.

Speaking to journalists at the sideline of the event, Abiodun was of enormous praise to President Tinubu, Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, IFAD, and participating state governments for funding the project, emphasizing that the President’s concern towards transforming the livelihood of the Niger Delta region, was complimentary.

“We want to most sincerely thank the President of Nigeria, Ahmed Tinubu, for his relentless support towards transforming the livelihood of the youth and women in the Niger Delta region, through Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and the participation of respective state governments for payment of counterpart funds and for creating enabling environment”, Abiodun said.

He noted that the achievement of the Project was “unimaginable” having substantially improved and guaranteed food security for thousands of families in the region, giving rise to high demand of many communities “itching” to participate in the Project.

Giving reasons for holding such high level of event at the Nigeria Capital City, Dr Abiodun said,

“The reason why we’re coming up with this, is because of the success LIFE-ND has recorded in these past six years in various states we’re operating”.

He called on other major donor agencies and development partners who majorly reside in the Capital City to leverage on the successes of the Project to increase community and state participation to upscale LIFE-ND to a national project.

“There’s need for us to also reach out to other parts of the country, knowing full well that agriculture is quite key to the government of the day, both at the state and federal levels, identifying agriculture as key area where sustainable income can be guaranteed for the teeming youth and women of the country.

“There’s still need to expand more opportunities that exist for youths and women. We’ve limitations based on unavailability of enough funds to accommodate more people. There’s need to seek for partnership, collaboration and additional funding sources that’ll support this initiative”, Abiodun said.

He attributed the success to relentless teamwork, dedication and commitment on part of the project staff, and quality leadership who held forth the parts of responsibilities entrusted to them.

The LIFE-ND Project Champions which included Persons With Disability, PWD, of the nine Niger Delta States eulogized President Tinubu for transforming their lives from servitude to employers of labour in the selected seven agric enterprises of cocoa, rice, poultry, fishery, oil palm processing, plantain, and cassava production, including their value chains.

The Honourable Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, CON, whose focus is on transforming Nigeria’s agri – system, through innovation, investment and youth involvement, was the Special Guest of Honour at the event.
