IFAD Deepens Exit Strategy Education, Intensifies Financial Literacy Skills in Agribusiness Beneficiaries

To sustain the successes recorded in the Niger Delta region overtime, the International Fund for Agricultural Development, IFAD, has on May 14, 2026, in Aba, continued its yearly working session of impacting basic principles of accounting and book-keeping skills to its project beneficiaries in Abia State.

Responding to journalists, Mr Alozie Daniel Ikechukwu, ACA, who represented the Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprises Niger Delta, LIFE-ND, State Project Coordinator Uchenna Row

land Onyeizu, Ph.D, CEnv, said the training is to build financial prudence across all segments of the project beneficiaries, especially the agribusiness entrepreneurs, and the Commodities Apex Development Association, CADA, whose responsibility is to sustain the achievements of the project after its exit window.

Alozie said that the working session is focused on building capacity of participants on the primary principles of record keeping – income and expenditure account, including knowledge of tax implications for the sustainability of their businesses.

“This is exit strategy of LIFE-ND Project. These are the people that’ll take up the responsibility of the project when the project is exiting. So, we deem it necessary to build their capacity in record keeping which is a major input in any business sustainability,” he said.

As an annual exercise, Alozie hinted that the participants are proportionally selected from the project’s participating Local Government Areas of Bende, Isiala Ngwa North and South. Others include Osisioma and Aba South, adding that the knowledge acquired would be stepped down across all the agribusiness incubation centres in the state.

The resource person, Mr Boniface Nkoro, FCA, emphasized that proper accounting skills would enhance business survival, leveraging them from going moribund, noting that accounting knowledge would boost symbiotic relationship between banks and their customers.

Mrs Chioma Bassey, FCA, a lecturer in Abia Polytechnic, revealed government’s relief of four years of none tax payment for young agribusinesses, noting that some identified agribusinesses are tax-free, an incentive to assist their growth. She enjoined participants to explore these reliefs for their business sustainability.

The LIFE-ND Project Finance Officer, Mrs Loveth Okpata-Samuel acknowledged that the yearly sustenance of the training has created awareness among the beneficiaries and major agribusiness entrepreneurs, insisting that routine supervision would enhance their survival.

Mr Anthony Nwaobilor, State Rural Institution, Youth and Gender Officer, was optimistic that the sustenance of CADA, would immortalize the project achievements in the communities, as the revolving loan was designed to outlive many generations in the communities.
