IFAD: LIFE-ND Project Aligns with Governor Otti’s Agric Innovation, Introduces Farm Chart, Trains Staff on AI

The Abia Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprises Niger Delta Project, LIFE-ND on April 10, 2026, in Umuahia, built the capacity of staff, Local Government Desk Officers and other stakeholders on artificial intelligence, AI, to enhance office efficiency and increase food sufficiency in the state.

According to the Abia LIFE-ND Project Information and Communication Technologies Development,  ICT4D Expert, Mr Joshua Chinaemerem Chibueze, the objective of the training was not only to reduce office reporting challenges, but to also align with the  Governor’s Abia Agri-Dynamic Database System, Abia ADDS, promoted by the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Cliff Agbaeze, digital innovation to track the activities of farmers in the state, speedily providing solutions to their challenges.

Explaining the introduction of “Farm Chart” to journalists, the Mr Chibueze, said the innovation is capable of detecting major challenges in farming activities, including providing immediate solutions to crops and livestock diseases for increased production.

“The Governor actually is one of the reasons behind the successes of this Project. We wouldn’t have gone this far without his help. We appreciate him for his impact, electronically and digitally in Abia citizens”, he said.

He said the capacity of participants were built on PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer, (ChatGPT), and other AI applications, but warned against total dependence on the tools.

The LIFE-ND Project Finance Officer, Mrs Loveth Okpata-Samuel, said the training added to her, the knowledge of simultaneous transition from “portrait to landscape” typing, easily assisting her in the decongestion of piled up reports occasioned by numerous Project activities, while advising staffers to adapt to this application for early “retirement” of activity expenditures following IFAD standards.

Another participant, the Project Desk Officer representing Osisioma Local Government Area, Ms Doris Chizobam Otti, said her capacity was majorly enhanced on “professionally acceptable standards” of reports, attachment of photos and transitions that add quality to the project.

LIFE-ND Project is an IFAD-sponsored Project, an initiative of Federal Government, International Fund for Agricultural Development, IFAD, and Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, to mitigate increase in poverty, youth joblessness, while increasing sustainable income and food sufficiency in the Niger Delta region.

Beneficiaries are empowered in the state’s commodities of comparative advantage of rice, poultry, cassava production and processing, including oil palm processing, recently substituted for fishery.

Abia LIFE-ND Project, with the State Project Coordinator Uchenna Rowland Onyeizu, Ph.D, CEnv,  easily keyed into the Governor’s objective of food sufficiency, job creation and sustainable income, empowering more than 4,000 youths, women, persons with disabilities, across 100 communities in selected 10 Local Government Areas of the state.
